What's on

Algebra by Hussain Ismail

Algebra is the new play in development by playwright Hussain Ismail. Soulfire Theatre is providing support by organising readings and looking for possible funding to further develop the work and ultimately stage the play. Soulfire Theatre organised a reading of ALGEBRA at Departure in April 2009. The next stage of development is a rewrite and then developing it specifically for the stage.

Algebra is about the struggles of two Bangladeshi British brothers who are on a mission to rescue their youngest brother who has been kidnapped by Fate. The play is evocative, surreal and poetic. It is about the struggle to exist by any means necessary.

Soulfire Creative Lab

Every Tuesday evening In the heart of Whitechapel.

Creative development is crucial for artists – whether new, aspiring artists, or experienced artists. The creative lab is a space to share and learn from each other in a safe and open environment. Each week we work on a aspect of creativity like physical work, voice work or text work. Sometimes we develop devised short pieces that comes from improvisation. Sometimes we do writing exercises. Other times we focus on working with objects or metaphors, like a blank piece of wood lost on the stone floor, or like the moon hanging from the night sky. Key to all our work is embodying and realising the aspirations of the raging imagination that lives in our head, and that refuses to leave us in peace.

If you are just interested in knowing about what we do then you can come and observe but participating is the best way to find out if you like something! If you would like to come to the Soulfire Creative Lab then contact email Hussain Ismail.

Soulfire Tiger this summer

Soulfire will be running more projects for children this summer. Soulfire Tiger (children’s strand of the company) will be travelling to schools, estates and anywhere that children like to play and where the imagination lives. Watch this space for upcoming projects!

Soulfire Drums

Soulfire has set up a drumming group on the Tarling estate, Shadwell!

Over the last three years Soulfire has actively worked on the Tarling Estate through its summer projects to teach and educate children in various arts forms. Brazilian drumming was one of the arts forms that really got the kids going! They were fantastic at picking up the Brazilian beats and rhythms. Now we have set up group of young people who are developing the drumming group on the estate. They will develop their musical abilities and participate in local festivals and events.
